Unfinished Goddess Kali Idol [ BW Version ]

Via Flickr:
This year this was my second visit to Kumartuli during my stay of 2 weeks at Kolkata. Kumartuli is colorful and eventful almost always. There is a saying that goes like “we Hindus have 13 festivals to enjoy in 12 months”; and almost all of them need a separate kind of Idols and accessories. And Kumartuli is the one stop shop for all that.

I’ve posted both BW and color version of this image. Let me know which one you like better.

Venue : Kumartuli, Kolkata [ Calcutta ], West Bengal, India
Lens : Tokina ATX Pro SD 11-16mm F2.8 (IF) DX

Video: Speaking with tribal people in Chhattisgarh

Via Flickr:
This was taken in the rural, primarily tribal district of Bastar in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. This couple I recorded here have been married for many years, and are the head of a large family that make tribal handicrafts for sale for (mostly) domestic Indian tourists. The man on the right (mostly unseen) was our multi-lingual local guide: he's mentioned in Lonely Planet India. We simply contacted the Chhattisgarh state tourism board office in Jagdalpur, and asked for an English-speaking guide. He is probably the only one, and he's excellent, so if you're planning to visit Bastar District, I'd suggest hiring him.

squircles in c minor, first procession

Via Flickr:
Just a bit of experimenting around with stills and music to see how they might compliment each other (and how the technical process might go). My music and squircles in this case, but anything from the wonderful Squared Circle group could've been used.

Due to the screen resizing, they are no longer squared however.

See part 2 of this video here.
